Head of Property and Leisure

Welcome Letter

Thank you for taking the time to consider the role of Head of Property and Leisure at Maidstone Borough Council.

This is a new role, created because the Council has an extensive property portfolio, which not only generates income to support Council services, but also is vital to the delivery of many of our services, including leisure provision. We want to get the maximum possible value from our property, and to maintain and develop it for the future.

The Council is in a strong financial position, with a substantial Council Tax base, low dependence on central government funding and a healthy level of reserves. We have a capital programme worth over £200 million over the next five years, which will allow us to continue investing to deliver our strategic priorities.

We are looking for someone who is inspired by the opportunity to manage our property assets in a way that serves the community in the broadest sense. You will have a background in property and are likely to have a RICS qualification. Knowledge of the leisure sector would be useful but is not essential. Your experience may have been gained in either the public sector or the private sector. If the latter, we would expect you to be motivated by the opportunity to employ your skills in serving the public.

Maidstone Borough Council has a clear vision of what it wishes to achieve for our community. We have a strong existing organisation and a sustainable financial position, giving us the best possible opportunity of continuing to prosper even when times are tough.

If you’d like to join Maidstone Borough Council, we’d love to talk to you.
