Director, Environment & Waste

Location: Remote working - Maidstone, Kent
Salary: £98,000 - £117,000
Reference: 0117
Deadline: 29/01/2021

About the Role

Kent has experienced significant growth in recent years and, as the largest authority in the UK, it continues to adapt to the challenges it faces to ensure the services of the authority meet the needs of an expanding population.

During the course of the last year the Administration has refocused the Five year Plan in order to develop our Interim Strategic Plan “Setting the Course” outlining five key challenges to enable sustainable recovery and growth for our County.

Supporting the Corporate Director, this newly created role will drive the Council’s responsibility in delivering sustainable businesses and communities and lead Kent’s commitment to Net Zero across its own estate and the wider county; Kent has a diverse physical landscape which includes multiple urban areas, country parks and natural, historic and coastal environments.

The collaboration of the Council with Central Government, the Environment Agency, Natural England, utility providers, districts councils, developers and other bodies is critical. The Director, Environment and Waste will partner these organisations to make sure the Council’s priorities are clearly communicated and funding opportunities are both maximised and secured.

Whilst huge progress has been made in terms of Kent’s Environmental Agenda, this role will further underpin the Council’s commitment to their residents and Place.

As a progressive and ambitious County Council, Kent invites and encourages creative thinking and you will be surrounded my like-minded peers.

About You

A strategic thinker with operational understanding, your background will outline your successes and contributions to Place; the climate change agenda, conservation of communities and overall improvement of waste management services. This may have been within local government or perhaps as a partner to local authorities.
