Help us to create a better future for our children

Collaborate and innovate to make SEND everybody’s business

Shropshire is a fantastic place in which to live, work and visit, with a beautiful natural environment, communities who look out for each other, historic market towns, excellent schools, low crime and opportunity for everyone. The county has a rich cultural heritage to discover and natural landscapes to explore, for residents and tourists alike. The quality of life brings people to our region and makes people want to stay.

Shropshire Children’s Services has a ‘good’ Ofsted rating, puts children at the heart of all we do and our senior leaders have remained open to external scrutiny, challenging themselves and remaining focused on doing the best for our children and young people.  We work in partnership to ensure that our actions make a difference to improving the outcomes and lived experience of all children and young people, particularly those with SEND.  We have reviewed our governance structure so that SEND is prioritised at all levels, refreshing our SEND strategy, further developing the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment, reduced waiting times to access assessment for speech and language, developed the neuro developmental pathway and we are working with schools to reduce the number of children with SEN who are being excluded.

As the new Service Manager - SEND and Inclusion, you will champion school inclusion and safeguarding approaches for all education establishments across the local area.  Responsible for developing policies, you will forge solid partnerships, lead people to shape change and create a clear and consistent sense of shared purpose for the children and young people of Shropshire.  You will provide leadership for the delivery of services for our children, young people, education settings and professionals with regards to SEND and inclusive support services.  Reporting to and working with the Assistant Director Education and Achievement, you will collaborate with senior leadership teams across our education settings, partners and the Council with accountability for embedding key service improvements, assisting in shaping and embedding pathways and delivering improved partnerships, both internally and externally.

We are looking for someone to fill this new role who has a passion to work in partnership with our schools, children and family communities, including headteachers, parents/carers and professional partners. Your exceptional specialist knowledge, energy, child-centred approach, leadership ability and ‘can-do’ attitude will shape a new inclusive SEND culture, addressing the competing demands, financial challenges and driving the SEND and inclusion agenda aligned to our broader Children’s Services vision.  Your leadership will ensure that our services are fully inclusive of all children and young people so that they receive the best possible education. This is an exciting time to join our directorate, on our journey from good to great.

If you are ambitious, highly motivated to succeed and have the child at the heart of everything that you do, this could be an ideal opportunity for you. Shropshire is a great place to live and work.  We’ll offer you excellent opportunities to develop yourself and your career.

Closing date: Friday 17 September 2021*

*TBC – this date will be the earliest closing date, however it is subject to an extension.
