Find your greatness

Central Bedfordshire has achieved many successes since we were formed in 2009. We have set ourselves a challenging and ambitious agenda to make lasting positive change for our residents within a demanding financial environment.

The Children’s Services directorate operates as one team, putting children at the heart of all we do. We adopt a holistic approach, working with families to achieve our vision of happy children living in Central Bedfordshire. We have developed a strong stable community of dedicated, skilled professionals who are well supported. We are proud to be a learning organisation and encourage our staff to participate in a wide variety of learning opportunities.

As Assistant Director SEND and Inclusion, you will provide strategic leadership for the delivery of services for our children, young people, education settings and professionals with regards to SEND and inclusive support services.  Developing and leading on the delivery of relevant SEND and inclusion strategies that support our Schools for the Future programme, you will work with senior leadership teams across our education settings, partners and the Council with accountability for embedding key service improvements.  An overview of the delivery of the High Needs Budget and the delivery of the commissioning SEND services with our partners will also form significant areas of responsibility.  In what is a sophisticated Assistant Director role, you will work strategically across the system to shape and embed pathways, delivering improved partnership, both internally and externally, at the most senior level.

Schools for the Future is an ambitious programme putting schools at the heart of the council’s agenda. Alongside ensuring we can provide sufficient school places at a time of unprecedented demographic growth, we are co ordinating a consistent model of education across Central Bedfordshire and reshaping our SEND school-based provision. We are continuing to invest in our Early Help and Universal services and developing our transformational ‘Children Belonging’ programme to ensure that we create a truly inclusive culture across our own and partner services.

We are looking for someone to fill this new role who has a passion to work in partnership with our schools, children and family communities, including headteachers, parents/carers and professional partners. Your exceptional knowledge, energy, child-centred approach and ‘can-do’ attitude will shape a new inclusive SEND culture, addressing the competing demands, financial challenges and the creation of a new vision for SEND services in Central Bedfordshire.  You will be part of a strong leadership team, with a culture of empowerment and distributed leadership. This is an exciting time for our directorate, on our journey from good to great.

If you are ambitious, highly motivated to succeed and have the child at the heart of everything that you do, this could be an ideal opportunity for you. Central Bedfordshire is a great place to live and work.  We’ll offer you unrivalled opportunities to develop yourself, your career and find your greatness.
