The Strategic Director (Neighbourhoods) will tackle some of the biggest challenges and issues we face over the coming years. How can we live and use our environment in a sustainable way? How should we work with our communities and our partners to achieve the best outcomes? And importantly, how do maintain what makes Cornwall the place so many enjoy, visit and cherish as we grow and develop?
The role has a particular focus and responsibility for our environment, street scene, maritime and regulatory services and will support the Council to have a strong understanding of the specific needs of Cornwall’s distinct places. The role will promote close working relationships with town and parish councils, the Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise sector and blue light services to ensure successful places and resident satisfaction. You will ensure that there are effective relationships in place with the Local Nature Partnership; will set the standards and strategic framework for climate change sustainability and environmental protection and will implement an effective partnership with residents and businesses to drive significant reduction in waste.
The Strategic Director will be responsible for leading and managing a directorate of over 1,500 colleagues with a budget of nearly £150m. It has accountability for a diverse range of functions including:
This is a role for someone who can think strategically about some of the big issues, but also act tactically to ensure robust plans and frameworks are in place to tackle them whilst ensuring our day to day services deliver for our communities. It’s likely that you will have experience of working in a local authority or alongside as a close partner to help deliver positive outcomes. Importantly, you will have a strong commitment to Cornwall as a place and to those who live here.
