At a time of significant opportunity for our region, the creation of the Executive Director of Transport role represents a crucial step in delivering the transport transformation our communities deserve to truly reflect the needs, ambitions, and potential of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Transport is central to my vision for a happier, healthier, and wealthier Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Our region is growing quickly, and with that growth comes both opportunity and responsibility. We must build a transport network that enables people to move easily, affordably, and faster; in turn supporting businesses to thrive; and strengthen connections between our communities whether that be in the Fens or in our thriving towns and cities

The Executive Director of Transport will be instrumental in delivering a modern, integrated transport network, including our ambition for a Mass Rapid Transit system for Greater Cambridge, exploring solutions such as light rail and other advanced transit technologies. This role will also lead our work to improve bus services, ensuring that bus services are reliable, connected, and designed around the needs of all residents. Alongside this, we will continue working with partners to secure faster, more frequent, and more dependable rail services across the region.

Your work in this role would underpin our Local Growth Plan, which sets out an ambition to double the region’s GVA, while I am committed to going further: tripling our economic output by 2050. That means generating an additional £54.7 billion in GVA equivalent to adding the economic value of today’s Birmingham and Coventry combined.
